What is CI/CD testing?

CI/CD testing runs automated tests inside continuous integration and delivery pipelines on every change.

In continuous integration, every change triggers a build and tests. In continuous delivery, passing changes can be released at any time. Testing is the gate that makes both safe.

Effective pipelines run fast checks first, block merges on real failures and keep flaky tests from blocking work.

Example

Each pull request triggers unit tests in two minutes, API tests in four and the critical E2E journeys in nine, and a failure blocks the merge with a link to the video.

Best practices

  • Order tests from fastest to slowest
  • Block merges only on verified failures
  • Run tests in parallel
  • Publish results where reviewers see them
